A Special Spotlight

February 15, 2018

This month's blog comes from our General Manager of our Broussard, LA location, Shannon Andrews! Shannon has been a part of the Walk-On's family for seven years now and recently became our first female General Manager. We're going to let Shannon tell you just how she got her start with Walk-On's and why she loves working with us, take it away Shannon...

"This is a story all about how my life got twist-turned upside down and I'd like to take a minute so just sit right there and I'll tell you how I became a part of Walk-On's and share.." (Fresh Prince.. yes?)

walked up to the hiring trailer in Lafayette, LA 7 years ago (after doing several Google searches about this new "Walk-On's" coming to town) with no serving experience and took a chance at something I had never been a part of: the service industry. I had no idea what I was getting myself into. During training, I studied like I was taking final exams in college: late nights, early mornings, flash cards with every ingredient of the menu listed (begging people to quiz me).  We opened the doors to the public and I very quickly learned the service industry term "weeds". I was busy like I had never been busy before and I COULD NOT GET ENOUGH OF IT! I worked until my feet hurt just to hit the ground and my legs started giving out on me.

Six months into this new adventure I was approached by the General Manager about becoming a bigger part of this crazy/amazing/fun operation and I was floored. "Of all the people in this building, they chose me? I have no experience.. am I even doing this right?" But I believed in the people backing the brand and what they stood for so I bought in (figuratively speaking ha!) to something I knew barely anything about and over the years have been nothing but thankful and blessed to be part of such an amazing brand that has taken me above and beyond any type of career that I had in mind- from part-time hourly management, full time management and now first female general manager of the Walk-On's brand. I've experienced some of the best times of my life and made some lifetime friends that I am lucky enough to call part of my "Walk-On's fam" and none of that would have been possible without the walk-on mentality.

I love Walk-On's because the brand believes in morality and demands only the best, nothing less. People come here expecting a "typical sports bar" but the fun/family oriented culture we instill in our staff combined with the fresh, most amazing food you'll ever eat sets us so far apart from our "competitors" that you forget you're in a sports bar and have a great experience no matter what the occasion is.  There's no other place like it! Wearing the W on the front means playing for the name on the front of the jersey, not the back. It means taking care of the team and believing that if you do that, the team will take care of you. "Wearing the W" is the epitome of teamwork and the epitome of Walk-On's.
